Signed by Andy Warhol on the bottom left on the front.
Portrays outlaw Louis M.
Realized on the occasion of the exhibition "The Thirteen Most Wanted Men" at the Galerie Ileana Sonnabend in Paris in 1967 in a "different" format from the screen prints on display.
Warhol decides to use mug shots from the book NYPD with the 13 most wanted criminals in New York and, on commission by Philip Johnson, creates their portraits for a large mural at the New York State Pavilion on the occasion of the world exhibition in 1964.
Black and white images are printed with technique silkscreened on large square boards mounted on a checkerboard -36 meters - able to cover the exterior of the building, but the topic dealt with arouses immediate political reactions.
Management asks Warhol to remove the panel. therefore the artist decides to cover his work with colored paint silver so that the memory of censorship remains indelible
suffered.
Subsequently, Warhol produced the portraits for the exhibition at the Galerie Sonnabend in Paris.
