Beschreibung

L'Épave is an original artwork realized by Théodore Valério in 1869. Original etching on paper.

Passepartout included.

Titled on plate on the central margin. Signed and dated on plate on the lower left corner (L'épave Souvenir des Côtes de Bretagne).

Good conditions.

Interesting plate representing a corpse on the ground. The figure is a skeleton, and the background is characterized by a desolated landscape. The figure occupies the center of the plate and is characterized by a strong chiaroscuro.

The artwork was realized by Théodore Valério (Herserange, 1819 - Vichy, 1879), a French painter, engraver, and lithographer. He was friends with Nicolas-Toussaint Charlet; with him, he travelled around Germany and Italy. He exhibited for the first time at the Salon in 1838 at the age of 19. He realized several watercolors and drawings of the people he met with traditional dresses. When he went back to France, he exhibited at the Universal Exposition. At the end of his life, he moved to Bretagne, a place that inspired his work.
32 x 48 (foglio), 35,5 x 51 (passepartout), 16 x 24 (image)
