Giannina Arangi-Lombardi (Marigliano1891 - Milano1951)

He studied with mezzo Beniamino Carelli at the Conservatorio San Pietro a Majella in Naples, making his debut in 1920 at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome in the role of Lola in Cavalleria rusticana.

After three years of activity began the study with Adelina Stehle and Tina Poli-Randaccio, making his debut as a soprano in 1923 and rapidly imposing itself as one of the leading lyric sopranos-driven '20s and' 30s.

It was famous for performances of Aida, La Gioconda, Il trovatore, Moses (also directed by Arturo Toscanini), showing off a large and supple voice, capable of great smorzature: famous high C in air pianissimo O blue skies.

After retiring in 1938 he devoted himself to teaching, first at the Conservatory in Milan and later to Ankara, where he had as a student Leyla Gencer.
