Nicola Filacuridi (Alessandria d'Egitto 1920 - Sydney, 2009)

Having discovered a precocious musical talent, she studied singing in Alexandria with Maestro Hector Cordon, making his debut in 1945 at the Cairo Opera House in Cavalleria rusticana. The following year he left for Italy to continue his studies with Federico Del Cupolo, making his debut in 1949 in Savona La Traviata. The following year was the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma in Adriana Lecouvreur, then singing in Trieste, Venice, Parma, Turin, Florence, Naples. He made his debut at La Scala in Milan in 1953 in the contemporary Leonore 40/45 Rolf Liebermann, also taking part, in 1957, the first performance of Dialogues of the Carmelites. Even the modern repertoire played in 1958 Mathis der Maler by Paul Hindemith. Always in the fifties, he recorded several works for the Italian television: Lucia di Lammermoor, La traviata, Adriana Lecouvreur, Un ballo in maschera, Madama Butterfly. In 1964 he moved with his family to Australia, where he made the last performances at the "Elizabethan Theater Trust Opera" in Sydney, also appearing in New Zealand. He played about sixty-five roles: in addition to the aforementioned titles, Rigoletto, La Bohème, Tosca, Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Louise, Werther, Idomeneo, Lohengrin. also he contributed to "create" the roles of The angry island of San Domingo Donizetti, The straw hat of Florence Rota, Rossellini's War.
