Joan Pons Álvarez (Ciutadella de Menorca 1946)
His repertoire includes the major baritone roles of Falstaff, again sung at La Scala in 1983 under the direction of Riccardo Muti, on the centenary of the first performance, the best-known roles in Verdi's Il trovatore works, Ernani , Un ballo in maschera, Rigoletto, La forza del destino, La traviata, Simon Boccanegra and Macbeth. Among the works of other authors remember Pagliacci by Ruggero Leoncavallo, Pietro Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana and Tosca, Gianni Schicchi, The cloak, La Fanciulla del West and Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini. It has often been the protagonist of the opening seasons of the New York Metropolitan Opera, where he sang for more than fifteen years in a row. Portrait of the artist in the guise of Rigoletto, autographed dated 1993.
