French silver gravy boat - Paris circa 1880, mark of GEORGES BOIN and EMILE TABURET

boat-shaped body on an oval base with edges decorated with ribbons and acanthus leaves and side handles with garland motifs. Hallmarked with post 1838 French marks in use in Paris for 950/1000 silver, silversmiths Georges Boin and Emile Taburet  and with the English import marks in use in London for 1956-1957. The firm of Boin-Taburet was established in 1873 by the silversmith George Boin and his father-in-law, the jewelry manufacturer, Emile Taburet. This makers are credited with the revival in the 1880s of Louis XVth-style silver, and won a Gold Medal at the Paris 1889 Exposition Universelle for their monumental historicist work. Dimensions 11.5 x 29.5 x 19.5 cm. Weight 1170 gr. Item condition grading: **** good.
