Description

Roman intaglio in black paste, second half of the 1st century BC – first half of the 1st century AD, depicting a group of three retrievers (hunting dogs). In the foreground an upright sitting dog, which partially covers a second standing dog with lowered head. Behind its backs appears the head of an upwardly facing third animal. Groundline. The same composition on three other glass pastes, in Hannover (AGDS IV, p. 235, no. 1222), in Munich (AGDS I-2, pp. 211‐212, no. 2015), and in Berlin (Furtwängler 1896, p. 213, no. 5682. From a German collection, sold in 2014.
