PROVENANCE
Già Collezione Giuseppe Bottai
"The presence of this landscape by Giorgio Morandi in Giuseppe Bottai’s collection testifies the critical acumen of this protagonist of the fascist era (...). It is not the only work of the Bolognese artist owned by Bottai, since his collection also included a Still Life from 1923 (V. 80), acquired in 1928, and some etchings.(…)
The painting published for the first time by Vitali (V. 153) dated 1929 circa, is present (...) in the exhibition Artisti, Collezionisti, mostre negli anni del primato, 1940-1943, Rome Accademia di San Luca, December 12, 1996 - 8 February 1997 (...).
It can be assumed that the canvas depicts a glimpse of Grizzana's surroundings, since in 1929, the supposed year of execution of the canvas, Morandi, as recalled by Vitali (1964, p. 35, note 94), spent the summer in the Apennines ".
