The Anjou (1266-1282), Messina or Brindisi, Charles I of Anjou (1266-1285), Denaro, 1266-1282; BI (g 0,49; mm 15; h 12); + DEI GRA REX SICILIE, in field, crescent surmounted by lily, Rv. + DVC APVL'ET PRIC CAP, cross. Spahr 47; Biaggi 497.
Dark patina, good very fine.

The symbol of the lily above the crescent alludes to the victory against the infidels. According scholars, this type appeared after the Carlo's expedition against Tunis.
