Description

Rare, italic carnelian intaglio. Dog (or fox?) jumping to the left, with its back paws grounded and the front ones lifted up. The body is made of two big circular cavities joined together by dashed engraving lines; small globular elements are employed in the head, snout and paws. Convex surface. End of the 2nd - beginning of the 1st century B.C. Should note a very similar intaglio: Museo Archeologico di Bologna (see Anna Rita Mandrioli Bizzarri, La collezione di gemme del Museo Civico Archeologico di Bologna, p. 48 n. 21).
