Description

Agate cameo. Bust of Ulysses. This iconography spread during the 18th and 19th century; the variants, except several specimens, were usually arranged with frontal bust (naked or tunicate) and bearded head in profile, with fluent hairdo with the typical pointed headgear (pileus). The engraver prooves a remarkable ability in dealing with the stone layers, exploiting the part which is dotted in red for hair, beard, headgear, tunic and background, excluding face, neck and torso. This artistic intent enhances the value of the work of art, characterized by a precise and harmonious execution.
