Description

A roman carnelian intaglio. Head of Dionysus. The god is turned to the left, and is characterized by long and tied hair, adorned with heart-shaped ivy leaves. The prototype is inspired by greek hellenistical models. Deep carving of the intaglio, which is polished. Slight wear marks in the field. 1st century B.C. - 1st century A.D.
