A Grand Tour orange glass cast, drawn from a Poniatowski intaglio. Mars against the Titans. The god of war, in order to defend the Olympus from the attack of the monstrous Titans, hits two of them with his terrific spear. Extraordinary composition, produced during the neoclassical period. Rare cast, drawn from the carnelian intaglio (signed Apollonides) belonged to Prince Stanislas Poniatowski, Catalogue des pierres gravées antiques de S.A. le Prince Stanislas Poniatowski ([1830?]-1833): I.362; Prendeville, J.: Explanatory catalogue of the proof-impressions of the antique gems possessed by the late Prince Poniatowski and now in the possession of John Tyrrell, Esq.
