The German artist Joseph Beuys and Warhol are contemporaries and, although they have never been close friends, they shared a mutual admiration. The first meeting between Beuys and Warhol took place in 1979 in Düsseldorf, where the Nordic artist lived. Shortly after, Beuys arrives in New York for a retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum and meets Warhol in his Factory. Just a few months later in Naples, on April 1, 1980, the portraits that Warhol had made to Beuys were presented in the Lucio Amelio gallery in world premiere.
