Sicily, Syracuse, Second Democracy (465-405), Tetradrachm, c. 413-405 BC; AR (g 17,18; mm 26; h 5); Charioteer driving fast quadriga l., holding kentron and raising r. arm; above, Nike flying r., crowning him; in ex. grain ear l., Rv. ΣYPAKOΣIΩN, head of Arethusa l., wearing ornate ampyx, triple-pendant earrings and pearl necklace; below, ΠAPME; around, four dolphins, one emanating from below her neck. Rizzo, pl. XLVII, 17 (same reverse die); SNG ANS 287.
Rare and signed by Parmenides. Cabinet tone, attractive portrait: good extremely fine.
