ROMAN MARBLE ARCHITECTURAL DECORATION AS SPOLIA
2nd century AD
height cm 25; length cm 30; wide cm 23
With decoration characterized by vertical flutes on the field, a band of ovules and a preserved bearded mask, slightly protruding down. In medieval time the piece was resculpted, perhaps to cover previous figures, adding two apotropaic naked little boys in low relief, the one on the left completely covering a big face, the other on the right covering his own face.

PROVENANCE
English private collection, acquired by the current owner in Germany before 2000s.
