Description

ELAMITE BRICK WITH CUNEIFORM INSCRIPTION FOR KING UNTASH-NAPIRISHA
Southwest Iran, 1260 -1235 BC
length cm 12 x 7

Despite the gaps, it is possible to integrate the missing part of the text thanks to the comparison with other bricks inscribed and coming from the site of the ancient Al Untash-Napirisha (in today's Choga Zanbil, Iran). One hundred and one bricks come from the sian, a large complex of religious buildings built at the behest of King Untash Napirisha (mid of 13th century BC) and are characterized by the same inscription. The text belongs to the category of inscriptions relating to constructions with dedication to the god Ishnikarap, named on the right side of the inscription, missing on our exemplar.
