Description

Two Bowls

Two bowls with flat brim, wall with fairing, disc-shaped base with stacco a cordicella.
Archaic majolica painted in green-brown two-tone with various interlacements in the rim, white inside and cavetti with phytomorphic decoration between trellises. In the external parts, various decorations in two-tone registers.
1-2: Ø cm. 8, and cm.10; h. cm. 4. 4.Ø cm.9,5 h. cm.4. Cond.: the largest has some glue, and an integration.

Umbrian - Latium area, 14th century.

The small bowls served as finger bowls for the diners, as it appears in Giotto's fresco "Death of the Knight of Celano" (1292-1305), in the Upper Basilica of Assisi.
