Description

Trembleuse

Tea, coffee or chocolate service for people with tremors of the hand; it consists of a plate with a woven basket in the middle in which is placed a cup with two very complex handles, closed by a lid with a flower-shaped knob.
White porcelain painted in polychromy with floral clusters scattered on all surfaces; the woven basket is green. Meissen brand in all.
Plate: Ø cm.14; h. cm. 2,7. Basket: Ø cm. 7: Cup: Ø cm. 7.5; handles cm.13; h. cm. 7. Lid: Ø cm. 8.5; h. cm. 4.5. Cond,: very good.

Meissen, XVIII century, half and third quarter.

The trembleuse is designed as an aid for tea, coffee or chocolate drinkers and particularly useful for people who suffer from weakness and tremors in their hands, as well as those accustomed to having breakfast in bed. In this model the high basket glued to the plate prevents the cup from slipping away. The floral motifs are reminiscent of Chinese products in kakiemon style, but updated on European flowers: daisies, roses, tulips.
