A roman garnet intaglio. Lyre.
1st century BC - 1st century AD.
8 x 10 x 3,5 mm

The musical instrument is composed by : a sound-box, two vertical arms joined by a transverse, strings (stretched between the sound box and the crosspiece). During the classical period, the lyre was associated to Apollo virtus expressing moderation and balance. Use of globular elements. Slight wear marks. Traces of the antique iron mounting.
