A postclassical yellow agate intaglio. Bust of Emperor Nero.
Circa 19th century A.D.
14 x 18 x 3 mm

The laureated is facing left and characterized by the typical anatomical features of the julio-claudian emperor: short fronthead, long straight nose and small chips, proeminent chin covered by a light barbula. Massive neck. His hair cover the back of the neck until the shoulders. This intaglio is inspired by the roman coinage production. Latin inscriptions in the field : NERO CAESAR AEXSVS. Mirror polished. Wear marks.
