A neoclassical agate cameo. Bust of Alexander the Great as Hercules.
End of 18th century - Beginning of 19th century
21 x 30 x 5 mm

The young Macedonian ruler is facing right, wearing the nemean lion skin (leontea) as Hercules. The portrait is characterized by his typical long and thick hair (and a light barbula), lips slightly parted, prominent nose and engraved pupil. An old transparent layer of glass is attached on the backside of the thin stone as reinforcement.
