Manner near to the Newcastle Painter, ca. 650 - 625 BC

A gorgeous polychrome olpe in its classic form characterized by a globular body, a funnel-form neck, a flared rim and an applied strap handle. The entire surface is coated in a layer of dark-brown slip, divided into horizontal bands by added white and red paint. The main decorative pattern consists of a frieze of four mythological beasts: a chimera, a panther and a deer bitted by a griffon, with delineated silhouettes turned towards left. Partially restored; an encrustation on one side of the body.
