Pair of the Amalfi Coast’s landscapes
Oil on canvas, 46 X 73,5 cm;
46 X 73 cm
These two artworks are signed by Alessandro La Volpe, painter of the nineteenth century who was a member of the second generation of artists of the Posillipo school. This name was given by Pasquale Villari to that group of artists who was influenced by the painting of Anton van Sminck Pitloo and Giacinto Gigante, and used to paint landscapes, monuments and traditions of Naples and of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
The canvases depict two different views and one of them is recognizable with a landscape glimpse of Sorrento. The artist, in fact, since his beginning in the Bourbon Exposition of 1848, painted some places of Campania area including Naples, Ischia, Capri, Pompeii, Paestum, the Amalfi coast, harbors and boats.
