SERLIO, Sebastiano. Den eersten (- tweeden) boeck van Architecturen Sebastiani Serlii, tracterende van Geometrye Perspectyven. Antwerp, Peeters, 1553
Folio (358x240 mm), 2 works bound separately in modern vellum, both in good and clean condition. Each title-page with title printed within a beautiful woodcut border, the text printed in black letter type, fully illustrated by many woodcuts. Book I: ff. 10 (of 14, lacking ff. 10-11, 13-14, so C2-3, C5-6). Book II, ff. 27 (complete, lacking last blank). Content: Book 1: Geometry; Book 2: Perspective. The first Flemish edition of Serlio’s book I-II, one of most famous Renaissance architecture textbooks, in which the illustrations assume primary importance. The woodcuts in this edition were copied from the Italian 1551 Sessa-Sabio edition printed in Venice. Both titles are within a strap-work border, the first copied in reverse by Pieter Coeck from the 1545 original French edition plate. Pieter Coeck van Aelst was a teacher of Hans Vredeman de Vries. Fowler 305; Berlin Kat. 2569; Machiels S-283/284.
