Description

ANSALDO SVA
SVA-10 Gabriele d'Annunzio model aircraft

Original wooden model of the SVA-10 made in the period 1918-1920, coeval with the undertaking of Gabriele d'Annunzio del Volo on Vienna on 9 August 1918. The SVA model (from the initials of the designers Savoia, Verduzio and Ansaldo) has movable wheels and rotating propeller. The one conceived and led by the Italian poet in command of the 87 air squadron "La Serenissima", was a very dangerous undertaking which involved the launch of 50 thousand tricolor flyers containing D'Annunzio's text in Italian and as many with the text in German, with which one provocatively they exhorted the Austrians to put an end to the war: We read in the leaflets thrown “We fly to Vienna we could throw bombs by the ton. We are only giving you a three-color greeting: the three colors of freedom. We Italians do not make war on children, on old people, on women. We wage war on your government, the enemy of national freedoms, on your blind, stubborn, cruel government that does not know how to give you either peace or bread, and feeds you with hatred and illusions ". The enterprise also referred to as the "crazy flight" remained memorable because the SVA (11 departed from the San Pelagio airfield, near Padua, only 7 completed the feat), under the command of Gabriele D'Annunzio, traveled about a thousand kilometers, of which over 800 on Austrian territory before returning to the base. The planes, one of which two-seater where D'Annunzio flew with his friend Captain Natale Palli, took off at 5.50 from San Pelagio not far from Padua, at 9.20 were on Vienna, ready to descend to an altitude of 800 meters over the Austrian capital for throw flyers
