German Gothic ivory carving of the Virgin and Child - 15th century

elephant ivory (Elephas maximus Linnaeus, 1758 or Loxodonta africana Blumenbach, 1797) depicting "Virgin and Child", carved in the manner of Gothic art. The ball that the Child holds in his hand is the same globe depicted as a symbol of power in the portraits of the emperors of Rome and Byzantium; with the diffusion of Christianity, it became the globus cruciger.
Height 19.5 cm, base 4.5 x 4.2 cm. Weight 308 g.
Item condition grading: **** good (defects, lacks and restorations).
Accompanied by Centro Universitario Milano Bicocca Radiocarbon Dating Analysis dated 19/03/2018 and by CITES Certificate.
