Eastern Greek sphinx trapezophoros
3rd – 2nd century BC; height cm 85 (33’’); A grey-white veined marble sphinx standing with the lion hind paws on a moulded base, the chest pushed forward, the female head with prominent chin and curly hair elegantly tied up and falling over the shouders. Over the head, a rectangular pillar with profiled moldings.
A tolerable restoration on her face.

PROVENANCE:
Property of a European gentleman living in London; acquired in the UK before 1980.
