Description

Barbaric gold medallion
3rd century AD; diam. mm 35 (1’’); gr 10,5; A round medallion with stamp of standing Libertas, abacus and cornucopia in the hands, encircled by wine graps and tendrils in relief, realized by granulation.
Probably from the Kingdom of Aksum (Eritrea and the Tigray Region of Ethiopia). The reverse was probably drawn from an aureus of Roman Emperor Severus Alexander (AD 222 – 235).
