A neoclassical agate cameo. Bust of Hercules.
End of 18th century - Beginning of 19th century
21 x 28 x 5 mm

The young hero is turned to the right side. The head is characterized by short curly hair, low forehead, prominent nose, full lips and rounded chin. A fine work inspired by highly popular ancient prototypes. Several copies of the same youthful bust with a club behind the shoulder are engraved after a beryl intaglio of the Roman imperial period signed by the Greek gem-engraver Gnaios.
