Description

A large and unusual georgian agate seal intaglio. An english poet.
End of 18th century
21 x 25 x 4 mm

The character is facing left in the act of reciting his verses during a theatrical performance. He wears an elegant dress with a large collar. His hair are composed of long wavy locks which give a romantic pathos. The face shows a long and thin nose, the eyes upwards emphasizing his reflexion during the act with the accentuated eyebrows. The little slightly opened mouth let the speech out and overlined by a fine moustache. The hand strongly posing on the top of his head represents the artistic moment of the inspiration. In front him, a manuscript. The stone is burnt and probably used as a seal.
