Description

Stafano Tofanelli (1752-1812) after a painting by Nicolas Poussin, now in the Wallace Collection in London, printed by Raffaello Morghen (1758-1833) in Rome, 1787. Beautiful representation of the Hours depicted as young women dancing in front of the Ages of life, a two-faced herm and an old man winged playing the lyre, while two little putti sitting below play one with soap bubbles and the other with the hourglass, signifying the transience of time and earthly things. Above the scene is the magnificent chariot of Apollo with the circle of the Sun, which symbolizes the constant movement of the Universe.
