Very intense and beautiful portrait representing the figure of Honorè de Balzac with his main works over the table, the huge title on the upper margin and the dates "1829 1979" (1829 in the date of the work "Les Chouans" written by Balzac and 1979 is the date of the realization of the work). A decorative frame surrounds the whole composition. "Chouans" is the name taken by the royalist insurgents of the Mayenne department with the Vendée Wars. Les Chouans is a novel by Honoré de Balzac of 1829, inserted in the XIII volume of the Human Comedy, in the Scene section of military life. Balzac conceived the idea for the novel during a trip to Brittany organized by a family friend in 1828. Interested by the people and the atmosphere of the region, he began to collect notes and descriptions. After the publication he published three editions of the novel, each heavily revised and with different titles. The novel uses the true historical background to tell a fantasy story. Discuss issues such as passionate love, vindictive deception and social status.

The work has been realized by Alice Huertas a French artist and famous illustrator working in the 1950's.
