Plate 23 - From Liber Veritatis

Aquatint.
Beautiful Artist’s Proof, representing a shepherd with his herd pastouring at the shore of a river, in a site of an antique temple. Aquatint by Ludovico Caracciolo (engraver), is inspired by the production of the French painter Claude Lorrain (draftsman). Signed and Numbered on plate lower “Claudio di Lorena inv., L. Caracciolo F.”. From the collection “Liber Veritatis”, Rome, F. Bourliè, 1815.

Ludovico Caracciolo (Rome, 1761-1841)

Roman landscapist and engraver, specialied in architectural drawings and panoramas of the Eternal City, Caracciolo loved travelling and drawing the most beautiful scenes he met along the way. He became a protégé of Elizabeth Foster, the second wife of the fifth Duke of Devonshire, William Cavendish and had the possibility to publish a set of prints inspired by Claude Lorrain‘s works, collected in Liber Veritatis, Rome, Francesco Bourlié, 1815 (now in the British Museum collection).
