Description

L'Assomoir is an original artwork realized by Marcellin Desboutin in 1886.

Original etching on paper before Letter.

The artwork is from the cachet "British and Foreign Artists Association". Hand-signed in pencil by the artist on the lower right corner.

Mint conditions. Passepartout included.

Fresh and beautiful portrait from an original drypoint preserved at the Bibliothéque National Française and representing the portrait of a man.

The artwork was realized by the French artist and writer Marcellin Desboutin (Cérilly, 1823 - Nice, 1902). In 1945, he worked at the atelier of the sculptor Louis-Jules Etex at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, he soon attended the painting course of Thomas Couture. He travelled along Britain, Italy, and Luxembourg. In 1857, he inherited a big villa near Florence, where he lived with Edgar Degas and led a luxiourious life. In 1873, he went back to Paris, where he spent much time with Édouard Manet and Emile Zola at the café Guerbois.
