AN INK, COLOURS AND GOLD ON PAPER ILLUSTRATED BOOK
Japan, Tosa School, Edo period
the biggest 67,3x30,2 cm (80,5x44 cm with frame); the smallest 30x42,3 cm(43,3x55,3 cm with frame)
The book is constituted by the frontispiece, the final page and ten pages, five with calligraphic text and five with polychrome and gilt compositions with male and female figures in pavilions and samurai with horses, the style of the costumes resembling the Heian period (794-1185) and probably inspired by a novel or a historical event from that epoch, the book dismantled and adapted in five European wood frames with protective glass.
Provenance: an Italian private collection.
