Provenance: Vittorio Bellini (1936-2009) collection.
Masks of this type are used during the rituals organized by the 'ekpo' society, to which we owe the initiation of the young, the cult of the ancestors and protection for the community. In ceremonies, black masks like this ('idiok ekpo') and white masks ('mfon ekpo') are used.
