LARGE CANOSAN VOLUTE KRATER
4th - 3rd century BC
height cm 52,8
A remarkable polychrome krater decorated overall in white slip, embellished with pink, white, red, and blue details and characterized by two handles with gorgoneion on both sides. On the neck, insert between a continuos register of ovales, a sequence of three winged puttos on one side and a polychrome laurel branch on the opposite one. The main decoration is arranged on two opposite figurative registers and it consists of: a battle scene between two horsemen, one holding a large shield; a winged figure turned toward a warrior, as suggested by the armor attributes. Handle and foot restored.

French private collection, formed in the 1980s.
