Описание

Dreaming is a fine black and white etching on ivory-colored paper, realized by the French artist Philippe Jullian (1919 - 1977).

Representing a sitting young boy completely absorbed by his thoughts, this beautiful modern artwork, realized with a sure and impulsive line, is in excellent conditions, except for a minor ink stain on the lower right margin.
Philippe Jullian (1919 - 1977) was the French illustrator, art historian, biographer, aesthete, novelist, dandy, and traveller was at first noticed thanks to his artist's label for the famous French wine from Château Mouton Rothschild. Jullian produced illustrations for his own books as well as works by the classic authors like Honoré de Balzac, Colette, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Ronald Firbank, Marcel Proust, and Oscar Wilde. His books and articles concerning the art movements of Art Nouveau and Symbolism helped to renew an interest in that period.

In his artworks, he was not afraid to explore the themes of homoeroticism, sado-masochism, transvestism, and the aesthetic life. His inclination towards satire is evident in fiction, such as La Fuite en Egypte (1968), published as The Flight into Egypt in 1970, in his works of social satire, including the Dictionnaire du Snobisme (1958), Les Collectioneurs (1967), and especially in his collaboration with the British novelist Angus Wilson For Whom the Cloche Tolls: A Scrap-Book of the Twenties (1953), which he also illustrated.
