Description

Tondo

Tondo with an enlarged hem.
Majolica painted in polychromy in the enclosure with "Landscape"; towards white with cartouche bearing the n.11.
Ø cm. 24,5. Cond.; very good.

Castles, Grue workshop, XVIII century, half approx.

Round with an elegant landscape dominated by two large trees from the right to the center that act as a backdrop to the central decoration: a meadow appears that runs along a river where some people are fishing, and on the other side others are walking; further down begins an urban landscape with a large road formed by tall buildings that serve as an entrance to the city, beyond, chain of mountains sharp and colored blue.
It is a landscape much loved by the users of the majolica of Castelli in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. It is present in the Grue workshop, both in the majolicas painted by Carlo Antonio and in that of his successors, from Anastasio to Niccolò Tommaso Grue.
