Description

Jean-François Poletnich

Le Trait Dangereux is a superb black and white etching and burin on paper, realized in 1742 by J.F. Poletnich, after François Boucher.

A beautiful woman is unsheathing an arrow and is wrapped by a dramatic drapery: you can breathe a Neoclassic air.

With a very wise tone calibration, and a deep and vibrant black, the black obtained by the burin, the composition is made with full mastery of the artistic technique and a typical sensuality of XVIII-century artworks.

With inscriptions of the authors on the sides, the title engraved in capital letters on the lower margin at the center. "Paris chez Basam" is the inscription pointing where to buy the artwork at the time.

In good conditions, except for a diffused foxing above all on the margins and a usual yellowing of the paper, this original print has preserved all its beauty, charisma, and amazing lifetime impressions. Including a cardboard passepartout, cm 67.5 x 55.

A copy before letters is preserved at the Louvre Museum in Paris.
50.5 x 37.8 (foglio), 67,5 x 55 (passepartout)
