Description

Le Meprisant du moderne is a precious etching realized in 1784 by an artist from the German School, Joseph Franz Friedrich de Goz, or von Goez (1754-1815).

Signed on plate on the lower left margin, dated on plate on the lower right (not very readable, below the bas-relief).

In very good conditions, except for some usual foxing, yellowing, and some light discolorations of the paper.

This is a very rare burnt Sienna etching with a satiric subject: an elder and elegant nobleman despising modern artworks.
